ABOUT BUTTER

Butter is made by people who used to send the newsletter.

OUR MISSION

We’re on a mission to help churches send newsletters they enjoy making and their people actually read.

FOUNDER MEMO

Hey,

I spent about seven years on church staff, most of it in communications. I know what Wednesday afternoon feels like when the newsletter has to go out, three ministries sent their announcements late, and the editor just stripped the formatting out of a paragraph you already fixed twice.

I also know what it feels like to open it Monday and realize almost nobody read it.

That bothered me more than the formatting did. The newsletter is not a chore. It is one of the few times all week your church speaks to everyone at once. It is how a family finds out where to drop their kid off. It is how someone new learns there is a place for them on Sunday. It is how a congregation hears that a member is sick and needs meals. That is worth doing well.

But almost every church I have worked with is doing it in a tool built for selling things. The software is not evil. It is just aimed somewhere else. And the cost of that mismatch gets paid by a volunteer at 9 p.m., or by a communications director spending her best hours wrestling an editor instead of writing something worth reading.

So we built Butter. The idea is small on purpose. Butter will not run your website, your giving, your check-in, or your database. It sends your church a good email, it makes that email look like someone cared, and it charges a price you can explain to your finance team without a spreadsheet.

I still serve at my church. I am a lay elder, and I still sit in the meetings where somebody says “did that go out?” So I am not building this from a distance. I am building the tool I wanted when it was my job.

If you are the person who sends your church’s newsletter, thank you. Most people in your church will never know how much work you put into something they read in ninety seconds. I hope Butter gives you a few of those hours back.

Grateful for you,

Graham Thompson Graham Founder, Butter
